Instructions for correct sampling

Sterile swab

Take a sterile swab from the lesion (rub actively over the lesion) and place in a vial with saline. The swab must have valid contact with the lesion.

Tape test

Press the tape directly onto the lesion (particularly useful for Sarcoptes and other parasites). Transfer the tape to a microscope slide and fix with the adhesive side facing the slide.

Skin scraping

Scrape the lesion down to the red layer (until slight bleeding) with a sterile scalpel. Place the scraping in one of the two plastic vials with saline.

Additionally — if fungal infection is suspected

The scraping can also be sent in a vial for fungal culture. Instructions are clearly marked on the DermatoKit.
